Some Christian Artists Worth Celebrating
Hi, my name is Mark Pettigrew. Thank you for taking time to visit this web site.

No matter who you may be, I hope that you will find something of value at ArtisticChristians.com.

I particularly invite you to visit the web page containing the Mission Statement for this web site, if you're interested in knowing more about what this site is all about.

If you're new to this web site, please take the time to look around in order to get a better idea of what the site has to offer, and also to get an idea of what the site will probably be offering in the near future.

In relation to the mission of this web site, I'd like to share an poem I recently wrote. It does a pretty good job, I think, of expressing the way I feel about the importance of the arts to Christian evangelism and missions.

Empty Walls
© by Mark Pettigrew

  Looking at these empty walls,
just makes me want to cry.
In terms of creativity,
it seems your well's gone dry.

You all worship the Creator;
or at least, that's what you claim.
But the empty walls in your church's halls
are a testament of shame.

If you have no love for beauty,
then I find it very odd
that you would think I'd want to serve
such an uninspiring God.

Art is not mere decoration.
It reflects what's in your heart.
If you long for a revival,
then let's see it in your art.

As I wrote the above poem, I was thinking about a large church I once attended in my home town. There was no shortage of available wall space in that church, yet the walls were seldom if ever used in order to do anything which went beyond mere functionality. They had the opportunity to demonstrate that they were in touch with the Creator of all that is good and beautiful, but they weren't interested in art unless it served a demonstrably utilitarian function. How sad.

Fortunately, more and more churches are showing a renewed interest in the arts in all of their diverse manifestations. Not just in music with lyrics, but instrumental music, drama, visual art, poetry, really creative literature and much more. This site exists for the purpose of accelerating that trend and offering practical help to those Christians who have dedicated their lives to the utilization of their artistic talents for the purpose of building the Kingdom of God.

ATTENTION: In addition to the page containing the Mission Statement, I urge you to take the time to visit the page pertaining to SAS and read about the relationship of that tragic condition to this web site.

EVEN MORE LINKS!

If you're observant, you will soon come to realize that like a Christian who has not yet arrived at his or her final destination, this web site is still a work in progress.

That's a healthy thing. If a web site isn't changing regularly, it's usually because the person or company which created the site has decided to move on to other things.

It would be an understatement to say that there isn't a huge staff associated with this ministry. When I use words such as "we" and "our" and "us" on this site, I am currently referring to myself and to the Holy Spirit within me, without whom I could do nothing.

Hopefully, other Christians will soon join me soon in this new endeavor, and then words such as "we" and "our" and "us" will also refer to the people who have joined together with me in order to see the fulfillment of my visions and dreams for this web site and for our culture.

Meanwhile, please know that web development takes time, particularly when it's all being done by one person who also has many other tasks to accomplish which are not related to web development. It is likely that parts of this web site will be developed better than other parts of the site. I therefore ask for your patience as I develop this site into what it needs to be.

May the Lord bless you as you seek to grow in understanding of how to best serve God with your artistic talents and abilities.
